| thoughts about Peace in ancient india | | Thoughts about Peace in ancient india! In india every mantr, hymns starts or ends with something about peace. its defined in just two words.
"Om Shanti"Om is sacred sound made of three sounds as aaa -- uuuu -- mmmmm= Om. it supposed to make all frequencies of human sound when pronounced correctly. Its written in specific symbolic formation ( see image). Interestingly there is a symbol for om shanti. and which is nothing but swastic. (swasti= peace). same swastic hitler used on flag contrasting its whole meaning with itself. ___ |__|____| |. This sumbol has only meaning in india and this whole peace. Om shanti.Shanti= Peace.
This just made me though the ancient sages had though of peace even when they were not part of any wars.
There are number of shanti matras but my favorite is, which include almost every particle, and ask it to be in peace.
I have written sanskrit mantra in roman letters and its meaning from experts.
Mantr:: ""Om dyauh shaantih Antariksham shaantih
Prithivee shaantih Aapah shaantih
Oshadhayah shaantih Vanaspatayah shaantih
Vishvedevaah shaantih Brahma shaantih
Sarvam shaantih Shaantireva shaantih
Saamaa shaantiredhih Om...
| | Exercise, the spice of life, (Old Spice deoderant) | | our Yoga teacher is on vacation for a week. So we have a sub and she is really working us, it's hard but I wish she would stick around for a couple of months, we would get in much better shape. Half way through the class today i had to quit, I was soaking wet and just couldn't do more today, but if I had 6 weeks I might be able to get through a whole class with this teacher. Do you ever have something you have to do but it makes you want to continue just to show yourself you can do it? | |

| Wordsworth and Shelley | | Wordsworth and Shelley belonged to the romantic school of English poetry. Wordsworth was an ardent worshiper of nature and Shelley was a revolutionary romantic. Wordsworth had a long life and had chances to compose beautiful poems and that too in great number. Nature to him was something living and he had attempted to communicate with it and this realization at some points reminds me the philosophical contribution of the sage-bards of the ancient India. And the visionary Shelley was a different personality armed with the courage to challenge the god in his Prometheus Unbound. And courage he did have really even to challenge the stormy river that of course was the cause of his premature death enough before his could-have-been-much-more contribution to the sphere of English poetry.
What more differences do you find in their literary exercises?
| | Politics in the Indian Epics | | We have a pair of epics, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata by name. These two epics are treasures of the world literature and these two are embedded in the religious ideas and conceptions of the ancient India to such a degree that many Indians still today believe in the historicity of the characters of those writings. I should not move to that domain at present. Rather the contents of these epics, to my observation, tell us in very simple way the tale of the political conditions of the time.
In the Ramayana we find the expansion of a kingdom, some measures to take a few minor power centers away from Ayodhya into confidence and actually subjugate them gradually and finally stretch the kingdom to far south, that is, Dakshinatyo, and even crossing the Indian Ocean. Inside the royal palace, brewing up of some individual ambition to frame conspiracy (the Kaikeyee-Monthora-Bharat episode)has also been noticed. Hence the political consideration has some strong presence in the Ramayana.
The Mahabharata presents the crisis of monarchy in more matured dimension. The crisis of kingship, the conspiracies in the royal dynasty, the attempts to confirm supremacy of one over the others and at...

| Indian Epics | | My favorite books are the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. These two books are fountains of incessant pleasure for me. These are epics and have been written in the ancient India and are indicator of the roots of Indian culture. These epics are great and the characters dealt in them are greater. The bards of the Indian epics, Valmiki and Vedavyasa by name, remind us how developed we have been in the ancient days too. On reading these epics my heart becomes as large as the sky and it seems to me that I can excuse anyone even if I have been sinned more against than sinning. | |
| | caste system | | Hello Friends, one of the most controversial topic regarding the Indian's society and culture is its stringet caste system. The word "Caste" is taken from the Portugues word caste. It can be defined as a rigid social system in whcih a social hierarchy is maintained generation after generation and allowtakings little mobility out of the position to which a person is born.
This system dates almost 3000 years back and was formed based on the need to form a social order in ancient India society. Today, it occurs more in the rurual villages then in big urban cities; and more in the social matters of kinships and marriages than in impersonal day-to-day interaction, such as travelling in the bus. If you think our caste system is rigid stil today them give me suggestins. Thank you
